Silver Jubilee Celebrations
(For those who could not make it) It was indeed an honor and proud moment for me to have been a part of the S’Jubilee Celebrations. The excitement of being a part of this mega event made me to rush to SSST and was the first one to be there with Ravi 48,and Vinay Mohan 46. Rajeev Jamwal (92), the pocket size dynamo along with other OBA office bearers had done their best to make the occasion memorable. School captain and his team along with 92, Pankaj Chadha, Ms Promilla Madam, Puran Singh, Kartar, Om Prakash and other staff member received us at the gate and soon we were informed about the arrival of Mr.Balbir Singh. It was really heartening to see SHS, the man who had looked us after during our formative years and had seen us grow into adult hood. (For all those who are not aware of this gentleman, he was one of the finest sportsmen that Indian Railways ever had. He played every game and had achieved distinction in each discipline at National level) Soon we were invited by the young and dynamic registrar-Flt.Lt. Mishra for a cup of tea and our strength started swelling. Bunny, Bhandari (133), 202, Amitab Ranjan, Dod, 167,Manoj Sood (63), Tilku, Raju (45), Mankotia (5) and many young ex-Sujaninans (pardon me for forgetting the names) had joined us by evening. The other surprise guests were Col B.R.Sharma (first head master of the school) and his wife. This is the man who cared us like a father and disciplined us like a true commander. Culture programme out side Sr.Sec.School (favorite hunting spot of our times) relived us of the exhaustive journey. The tempting orchestra made me to escape from my Biwi’s clutches and joined the senior students dancing behind the audience. The next morning a volleyball match was organized between old students and the staff, which the staff won convincingly. Pagal gymkhana drew a good crowd and that was the time when Col B.C.Kathpal (Ex. Principal) had joined us. Simultaneously guys were enjoying Para sailing, which was organized for the first time at Sujanpur. The OBA was conducted at 12.00 noon wherein the proposal to conduct OBA on 2nd Saturdays of May every year was taken and Rajeev was unanimously requested to continue leading the Association with other office bearers. Post lunch session was full of sports and fun. Guys who had not accompanied their better halves enjoyed the most, as they had nothing to fear and every thing to enjoy!!!! And those of us who were not lucky enough had to remain under strict vigil. Tug of War was won by the old boys along with 2 Kgs. Jalebee. By evening the strength of old boys had handsomely grown and every body was busy recollecting and narrating their own story. In the evening we had wonderful orchestra sponsored by Charu (Ranvir Rana-4!!!!!) and we all reciprocated by dancing to their tunes. First batch was specially invited to show their act and later on I got the proud privilege to pay tributes to Maj. Sudhir along with other class mates- Dod, Upkar, Vinay Mohan, Raju, Ravi, Mankotia, Billu (8) and Prafulla. Marco-Tilk Raj-another hero, roared on the stage and bloated us with pride and confidence. Satish 202-presented a flag along with his batch mates (4th) in the honor of gallant Ex-Sujanians. The celebrations continued through out the night and each one had fun and… Raja Virbhadra (CM) was the guest for the founder’s day who gave Rs 25 lacs for the auditorium. The gathering was thrilled by the sky diving performed by Air Devils besides the customary march past by the students. The Science Exhibition by young Sujanians was praiseworthy which was never conducted during our times. Before saying “BYE” we had tasty lunch and then took off from SSST Once again… Kultar Singh Nirala (22) |
